Preview: Clickstand Universal Camp Stove

The Clickstand Universal Camp Stove was first introduced to me by an EC reader while we were in Sacramento. He pulled it out and its small packaged size and light weight impressed itself upon me. As many of you know, Laura and I have traveled 2700 miles so far carrying our trusty Trangia stove and storm cooker. While we love it, we’ve been working hard to get our pack weight and size down and the Clickstand is an ingenious way to reduce both.

The Clickstand comes in a small plastic bag and packs nearly completely flat. There are three pieces that make up the walls that lock together. Then a central triangular piece that holds the alcohol stoves clicks in the center - locking the structure firmly together. There is then an optional windscreen that is designed to sit on notches on the Clickstand. The windscreen has two diameter settings that lock into place.

The Clickstand is remarkably simple and elegant and is the perfect compliment to the Trangia alcohol stoves It is offered in both a stainless steel and titanium version (the design is exactly the same). Amazingly, holding them in either hand the weight savings with the titanium version are quite noticeable. It’s not a pound or anything, but easily discernible just by holding them. There is also an optional insert so you can use the stove with solid fuel tablets (like Esbit tabs).

I’ll be using the stove stand heavily in the next few weeks and will give a more detailed review with some videos of how it sets up. So far, so good. Stay tuned.

Would love to see a video of assembly, disassembly, lighting, and how fast it can get a pot of water to boiling.
I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts. I’m deliberating between the Clickstand and Trangia Storm Cooker.
Great review Russ.
I’m glad you and Laura are enjoying the clikstand. Thanks for letting me know it now comes in a titanium version.
Your review comes at a great time because I had been considering the storm cooker given the great review on Rivendell. Its great to know the clikstand holds its own against the other stove.
I found one video on youtube that demonstrates the stove Carl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-928CykxGs
I’m sure Russ will do a much better video demo though.
Cheers,
